Black Web Guitar is a self-learning site, designed to consolidate information was various sources and coalesed into a more streamlined form to make it easier to learn from.

Before beginning it's important for you to remember exactly why you decided to take up the guitar. You didn't do it because you wanted to spend long hours going over the same material again and again. I remember when I was young I was placed in a one-on-one class with a 'teacher' from a local music shop. I'm sure there was nothing wrong with this 'teacher' as a person or a musician. He just wan't a teacher. During the first session he seemed distracted, or bored. The only thing we did for the first lessons was learn the chromatic scale. It's an easy enough and popular first lesson. The problem was he never explained why I should learn this scale, what it would do for me and its importance in music. He just showed me where to put my fingers and told me to practice this over and over again all week, until the next lesson.

Now, some people would be fine with this way of teaching and dive full into doing the movements and not questioning why. I was not in this camp. Without an explanation or a reason to keep doing it, well, I was bored before I even walked out the door.

So, let's try not doing that. Learn the theory behind the scales and chords. Learn how to practice and how to use them. Let's also sprinkle in some songs to practice. Afterall, playing songs was what we wanted to do from the very start. So, why not begin with some.
